Daily Prompt – Ritual.

When I lived at home with my parents (a lifetime away now!), it used to annoy me that my father did ‘everything by the clock’. He had his daily routine and nothing stopped it. As often happens things run in families, I have turned out to be my father’s daughter.

Now I am older and less mobile than I was, I find myself with my routines – Breakfast at 9.00 a.m., lunch at 1.00 p.m., evening meal 6.00 p.m., glass of wine at 10.00 p.m. (my dad had a glass of beer at 9.30 p.m.)

Because my lungs are not good, I must walk three days a week. We live on the outskirts of the Village, I walk there three times a week, I visit the Library, we have four Charity Shops, I do a tour round them all, looking for interesting books, or maybe a an item of clothing – they do sell new goods donated by big stores, sometimes its a pretty piece of pottery or glass dishes – always ‘my treasure’.

On the way home, I stop to buy fresh bread at the Bakery, then a trip round the Supermarket, where I  even mange to have a routine panic attack as I get to the checkout – I hate it, they have put the self service tills in. My shopping done, it is all loaded into my shopping trolley for the walk home.

Then guess what? Its cup of coffee time, get the laptop opened up to check emails, deal with any that need attention. Write my ‘Daily Doing’s blog’. My other routine patterns, Sunday’s and Tuesdays are my writing days, when I have to do my homework for my writing tutor, or write poems to take to my Poetry Group, plus the accompanying research.

All this goes on, fitting in cooking, cleaning, washing, gardening, knitting, other occasional book related events, plus a few daily games of Solitaire. You can see, I am never ever idle, I don’t have the time!
