April, 30 days, 30 poems.
Day 12. What are you doing today?
A daily question after breakfast,
I always inquire of my husband.
What he is going to do, largely
depends on my
His reply ‘Well, I’m going to buy a car!
what are you going to do?’ Of course,
I was not going to miss out on this one.
‘I’m coming with you, you cannot make
a major purchase like a car on your own’,
when are we going?’ ‘As soon as I have
cleaned my teeth’. As the wife always has
more to do, that meant
I had to hurry.
We set off for Doncaster, it is a city that
has an ateriel road full of car dealerships,
meaning we shall have lots of choice!
As we drove along, we by passed the
quality cars we would once have been
looking for, this time we are down-sizing,
needing a model with benefits of
ecology and economy.
My husband has been building up to this
day, he has a mental list of four or five
preferred options. We pulled into a Citroen
Dealers, they had a lot of cars on offer!
We started by looking at second hand ones
hoping we could find a year old car with
low mileage. We walked round the lines
Just looking at ones that suited our criteria.
A salesman soon appeared at our shoulders,
We explained ‘we have just started looking,
You are the first on our list’. His reply which
I thought was clever, ‘I’ll just shadow you,
It stops other salesmen
There were plenty of cars, of all colours
that fulfilled our needs, non actually
signaled ‘buy me!’ until we caught
sight of a bright white one, definitely
trying to attract our attention! We
looked round, peered inside, kicked
its tyres, read its list of attractions, one
lady owner, almost one year old with
just over three thousand miles on
A voice said, it’s cold out here, come into
the office, we can talk about it and have
a hot drink’. Our body language gave us
away, the salesmen pounced! Two hours
later, our details and credit worthiness
checked, offers mad and accepted, we
have our car…
The decision was the ‘quick part’,
a couple of hours later, the
‘Deal done’, paper work read
and signed, arrangements
made to exchange vehicles,
In a couple of days,
we will be driving our nippy,
