April Challenge, 30 days and 30 poems.
Day 10. Reading Group today.
Five members met to discuss a book,
‘The Snow Girl’ by Eowen Yvery,
a debut novel by an Alaskan born
writer, which itself is based on a
100 year old children’s story by Arthur
Ransome. Of the five of us, only
our youngest member did not like
the book, not her style! It was in a way
a gentle tale, with violent moments –
you cannot live in a wilderness, having to
hunt for your food and not have some
violent action. The main thrust of the
story was love, of married people, parent
and child, child for an animal, love of the
open spaces. There were magical parts
where your belief was suspended.
The book, unusually included a list of
12 other books, written by Alaskan authors
which I fully intend to explore.
